In case you haven&#8217;t noticed a theme here- I love texture! And one way to add texture to metal is with a Rolling Mill. There are plates and textures you can buy online, but what if you want to use something of your own making. Etching onto brass is one idea. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/ursula-smith.com\/salt-water-etching-copper\/\">follow my directions for etching on copper<\/a> but just switch out the copper metal pieces for brass. Then this piece of brass becomes a rolling mill plate. However that requires a whole setup that is somewhat complicated so here is a much quicker an easier alternative.<\/p>\n<p>Yupo Paper cutouts! Actually, they don&#8217;t need to be Yupo paper which I neglected to mention in the video, they can be cardstock as well. For cutting intricate designs on the Silhouette Curio\/Cameo though, nothing beats Yupo paper. You can find out more about that <a href=\"https:\/\/ursula-smith.com\/yupo-paper-stencils-on-silhouette-curio\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this video I use the cutouts to imprint onto copper. I will walk you through my process (cutting out the part where it didn&#8217;t work because I was lazy and didn&#8217;t anneal the metal first haha). So note to all- make sure you anneal your metal first! I add a special twist using ribbon for additional texture. I am working with this technique quite a bit now. The only downside is that the paper does get squished in the rolling mill, so you should cut several copies of your designs to have on hand if you want to make more, or you mess up.
