Hello all! A while back,\u00a0 had done a post on using Ice Resin to coat Yupo Paper cutouts<\/a> in order to imprint designs into clay. I am following up here with another experiment using Lisa Pavelka’s Magic-Glos which is a UV curable resin. You can use the sun or something like a nail lamp to cure UV curable resin, and in this test case I just put my experiments outside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I tried to repeat the same experiments that I had tried with the Ice Resin post, and had some unexpected results! The original idea- to use resin to coat Yupo paper cutouts- worked great with the Magic-Glos UV curable resin! I decided this was the way I will do it from now on. Ice resin is great, but it takes longer to mix it, it has variable consistencies (thinner when first mixed or the weather is hot, thicker as it sits a while, etc), and it takes a lot longer to cure. The UV curable resin seemed thicker and domed more easily with just a single coat, and it cured in minutes rather than hours.<\/p>\n

However, the second experiment where I stamped directly on the non stick surface did not work as well. I suspect two things- the first being that UV curing resin needs UV to shine on it to cure. I wonder if the ink was enough to prevent it from curing. And\/or it could be that the Archival ink did not cure itself on this particular resin surface. I may retry this particular experiment again with Stazon ink and the Magic-Glos.<\/p>\n

So if you are working with clay, like the idea of using cutouts to impress into clay, and would like a more rounded impression then I would suggest using Lisa Pavelka’s Magic-Glos or some other resin that can cure with UV light.<\/p>\n
