Haha I bet you never thought you would see a food based post from me (well especially if you know me and know what an absolutely terrible cook I am)! But this is just a quick post because it took me forever to figure out a way to get foamed milk now that I am dairy free. I have seen other posts with ranked non-dairy milks that foam and I have probably tried them all, but the best one that I have found is- (drum roll please) Hazelnut Milk!
I use Elmhurst Milked Hazelnuts which you can find here- https://elmhurst1925.com/products/unsweetened-milked-hazelnuts. I just pour it into my milk frother (I am currently using one by Secura) and a few minutes later I have warm and foamy milk with a little bit of a taste of hazelnuts! True hazelnuts, not the hazelnut flavoring that you get at coffee shops. I love hazelnut butter and this is a slight hint of a a liquid version of that. Yum!!
I make my own hazelnut milk too, but I haven’t tried to froth that yet. I’ll update here when I try it.
Most of the time I use this foamed milk in a sugar-free chocolate coffee drink. I either make some real coffee or some decaf or mushroom coffee and add some sugar-free chocolate mix. The one I am currently using is by Diabetic Kitchen. It is chocolate-y and not super sweet.
I use one Tbsp. for 16 ounces of liquid but that is light on chocolate and sweetness so you may need more. Then I add the warmed/frothed Hazelnut milk on top. For an extra special combination I also add some Unsweetened Chocolate Milk (by Wholefoods 365) to my hazelnut milk before I foam it. It doesn’t foam, but it enhances the chocolate flavor.
So even being dairy and sugar free, I can still enjoy a hot chocolate coffee in the morning! Y.U.M.M.Y!
Enjoy!
