Reverse Setup for Embossing with Sizzix Big Shot Step 2

Reverse Setup for Embossing on Sizzix Big Shot

Hello Everyone! Today’s post and video are super short- no addendums, haha.

I demonstrate the new way that I emboss with stencils, Yupo paper cutouts, metal, you name it- anything where I use the Sizzix embossing mat and rubber/silicone mat. I’ve shown this a number of times before, but it is buried in the videos or in addendums etc so who knows if anyone has actually seen the footage 😉 .

I’ve always used the following sandwich-

  • Sizzix Platform with the appropriate tab and possibly shims depending on the thickness of what I am trying to emboss
  • A Cutting Mat
  • The embossing item, like a Yupo paper Cutout or stencil, etc
  • The paper I will be embossing
  • The Sizzix embossing rubber mat
  • The Sizzix embossing plastic mat

The problem with this sandwich is that it is difficult to get the embossing piece lined up with the paper when you are placing it down. So I now just reverse the sandwich:

  • Sizzix Platform with the appropriate tab and possibly shims depending on the thickness of what I am trying to emboss
  • The Sizzix embossing plastic mat
  • The Sizzix embossing rubber mat
  • The paper I will be embossing
  • The embossing item, like a Yupo paper Cutout or stencil, etc
  • A Cutting Mat

Now it is super easy to line things up. Especially when I am creating “scenes” where I use multiple things at once for embossing.

I also show how my beat up old cutting mat adds texture to the background and I continue to use it because I like that look.

I leave my plates or my embossing folder or whatever I’m using to emboss with (if it’s possible) in the paper after embossing and then use my ink pads over the top. This keeps the paper a bit stiffer and helps the ink go across the top easier.

Yay! No addendums in this video! Enjoy!
