Distress Crackle Paste Embossing Plates Results 1

Distress Opaque Crackle as and Crazing Medium with Embossing Plates

Hello Everyone! Today’s post is a quick (for me, haha) video. I’m experimenting with the Distress Opaque Crackle paste using a stencil that I cut out of Yupo paper using a Tim Holtz Sizzix Die. As usual, I cut multiples- this instance I only cut 2, but a lot of times I cut 3 for even deeper impressions after I glue them together. I do have a post/video on how I do that.

I used this stencil with an acrylic paste to make an embossing plate which I’ve shown before. So this was just a quick post/video to see how Ranger Opaque Crackle works as a plate.
I was hoping this would crackle and then add a little bit of texture to my embossing with this plate.

After I made the late and let it cure overnight, I ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot and there was a little bit of that crackle in the impression it left. It left a hint of texture and it definitely embossed really nicely. So if you’ve got the Crackle pastes from Distress and want to try this technique, I feel like definitely go for it.

I inked directly from an ink pad which was Distress Oxide and that seemed to obliterate the crackle texture. I feel like using a lighter hand, maybe a different ink, or an applicator as opposed to direct from ink pad would work better to preserve the texture. I also went through and sprayed it with Distress Spray Stain and that further covered up the crackle texture. So if you want to keep the crackle look I would skip adding a lor of wet inks on top. You could also run the cardstock through again with the embossing plate to see if you could get that texture back. I know I have some video shot where I experimented with re-rolling projects through with the embossing plates. I’ll try to get to working on that and perhaps shoot a follow up to this test and include it.

The second test here just used an embossing plate I made using the normal Molding Paste. There was a quick tip in the video where I used a gum eraser to remove lint from the embossing plate because the plate was not fully cured and I had sprayed the paper so there was some lint left behind.

I used this second plate (and I could have also used the other plate) to emboss a piece of cardstock that I had painted with Distress Matte Medium- the crazing version. I am so bummed that Ranger got rid of this!! I loved the tiny fractures this left behind and the transparency of the medium. Anyway, I ran this pre-crackled piece through the Sizzix Big Shot with the embossing plate and loved the effect of that!

I did go through and ink it with the same Distress Oxide ink pad and then prayed it with the Distress Sprays Stains. It came out way to busy looking for my taste, but I did love the idea.

So I would use both these techniques in the future, just with a lighter hand ;).
Enjoy!
