Sizzix Luster Wax Distress Spray Stains Resist 1

Sizzix Luster Wax Distress Spray Stains Resist

Hello all! Today I am playing around with Sizzix Luster Wax to make a quick Take 5 card base.

I used an old stencil brush to rub t Sizzix Luster Wax over a Yupo paper Mask that I cut myself on my digital cutter. I didn’t have enough of the makeup brushes that I’ve been using lately to use it with the wax, so I just grabbed an old stencil brush. I still think the makeup brushes are a little bit softer, so I probably would like those better, but the stencil brush definitely worked to get through the stencil.

The next step is to come through and spray it with plain Distress Spray Stains to see if the wax will resist. I sprayed with Prize Ribbon Distress Spray Stain and followed up with Peacock Feathers. Then I spritzed with some water. Now usually I just let my pieces air dry overnight, because I kind of do things in five minute increments and I can come back later when I have time to continue working. Here I decided to use the heat gun to dry it in order to see if I could wipe the excess Spray Stains off the luster wax.

Side Note: I do not leave my heat gun plugged in when I’m not using it just in case of accidents.

Now sometimes when I have a lot of ink pooled up on my project, I will take a second piece of paper and kind of mop up some of that ink. However, I didn’t want to do that here because I really want to see whether, after it’s dry, I can go back in mop those dots off. And I was really hoping it would work because I was planning on using the project for a graduation card, haha.
Now what was interesting about this experiment is that the Distress Spray Stain drops that were on the luster wax just kind of evaporated when dried with the heat gun. So I didn’t have to do anything else- I didn’t have to mop up or wipe excess ink off the luster wax. I did nothing. I just dried it and the drops disappeared. That’s a quick and easy background to start a card with, for sure!

In the past I had also spritzed the Yupo stencils/cutouts with alcohol and tried to lift off the leftover Sizzix Luster Wax from the mask onto a piece of cardstock, and that did work a little bit. I tried it here, after I finished drying the project. I then sprayed the cardstock with Distress Spray Stains even though I could barely see any lifted wax. It resulted in a subtle effect, but it was still kind of kind of cool. I would use a lot less ink sprayed over the top next time, and I think that would work better. I almost always try to do a lift just in case, because I can always come back over it with something else- even paint- if the lift doesn’t work out.

It seems as though the luster wax also sticks well to the Yupo paper so it will probably be an option if I want something I’ve cut out of Yupo to be gilded.

I also showed some other samples of this technique at the end of the video.

So there you have it- Stencil with the Sizzix Luster wax, then Distress Spray Stains over the top of the wax, dry it with a heat gun and that’s a quick Take 5 type of background. Give it a whirl!!
Enjoy!
